Hi Sam:
I believe I previously sent you a photo of my Plank Owner Certificate for the archives, if not let me know. I don't see any photos or mention of CLG-6 first Captain, Kenneth L. Veth. I also believe we took the first WestPac tour on CLG-6 in 1960-1961.
I just sent you photos, via Picasa Web Albums, and I believe you can download any that you want for the website. If you would like any of these from me, just let me know.
Personally, I was commissioned in June, 1958. After being interviewed by Adm. Rickover I went to Terrier school in Pomona, CA then to the Hingham Ammunition Depot Guided Missile Service Unit before assignment to Providence CLG-6 first crew. We commissioned her in September 1959 and I stayed aboard until my release from active duty in June 1961.
I started aboard Providence as Missile Division officer, then went to work for the XO as ship's Training Officer. I was qualified as OOD underway during our WestPac tour and promoted to LT shortly after active duty while in Reserves.
The Navy was a wonderful experience from my first Midshipman Cruise aboard Wisconsin to my time on Providence..1954 to 1961..The Good Old Days, for sure.
